This is why I chose to start a travel blog.

A blog for me is a way to give myself a chance to step out of the usual 9 to 5 job, be self-reliant and not depend on a paycheck along with finding my lost self. This is why I chose to start a travel blog.

Everybody who has met me over the years has noticed this too. Before I would even start a job, I know how long I am going to be there. The exit date is already decided. And, 8 out of 10 times, I am right. The odd 2 times, there are other things at play. My reason for starting a blog also has partly to do with my understanding of life. Which we can talk about later.

The only thing that I do regret about this frequent on the job and off the job scenario is lack of stability. Initially, I did not mind it much. Rather, I enjoyed it. After all, this instability is what played an important role in me being Jack of all trades. Something that I am very very proud of.

 “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”

That actually is the full quote. And obviously, I did take it to heart a long time ago. Hence, I have tried and tested about 8 designations in the last 5 years, officially. Unofficially, I have lost count. And, now I am ready for my next endeavor which is all about blogging.

It’s in the signs

And how you perceive them.

Do you remember those facebook questionnaires that would go something like, “click here and see what profession suits you best”, or “see if you are an old soul”, etc? Well, I did click on one of those a long time ago, and it said that I will be a YouTuber because people love me! Like Facebook knows, dugh!

Why to start blogging

At the time I laughed it off (like you just did), because well, me being me, an introvert, would never consider being in front of a camera. I usually get camera conscious when someone tries to take my picture. So making a video of myself while talking to a camera was out of the question.

But clearly, even if it’s not YouTube that I am considering at the moment, Instagram is not that far off either. I still take pictures and post them online. And, talk about them in minimum words so I can add a context to it. But so far, not many pictures of myself.

I mean Instagram stories are fine, it comes and goes, but on the profile, it stays. So yeah, being a blogger and not talk about myself, won’t take me so far.

But now that I think about it, maybe the facebook fun game algorithms aren’t so bad after all. I mean I am considering blogging even if it is after a couple of years since that game.

Why start a travel blog?

After being (on and off) dependent on a paycheck for the past five years, it got really tiring. Jobs and I did not get along very well because of the following reasons;

  • either I would lose interest in a particular field
  • notice how I am being constantly underestimated and so I would choose not to stay
  • be appreciated for the work that I am doing but no raise in pay even after working there for a year
  • dependence on a paycheck
  • need to ask for a leave every time I have to go somewhere
  • and I can go out of the city without being noticed by the office people only so many times
  • not being able to push the boundaries and test my abilities since I am working on someone else’s dime.
  • sitting in a chair until the clock strikes 6.30 even if I don’t have anything to do

I know, none of this is out of the blue, but certain things affect some people more than others. It definitely does affect me a lot.

I am 27 years old, struggling to keep a job, because I don’t like wasting my time or my potential, struggling to maintain a decent income while not being able to explore my potential in the field that makes me happy. Hence I chose to start a travel blog. Which gives me;

  • the freedom to work from anywhere
  • a chance to earn passive income
  • say what’s on my mind
  • explore my potential
  • push as many boundaries as I would like to 😉

“It’s better to try and fail than to regret for the rest of your life”

So yeah, I have wondered how it would feel to just pick up a backpack and leave. Which is why I started going on these short backpacking trips. That gave me the confidence to go on a longer backpacking trip with 2 backpacks. One that has everything and the other that has my gadgets (camera, cables, and accessories).

“Never give up on something you really want, it’s difficult to wait, but more difficult to regret”

I wouldn’t deny that there are days when my brain tries to convince me to not go at all. To just drop the idea of exploring the east coast and stay home.

start a travel blog

1 thing that I am sure of is that if I don’t do this now, I will regret it for a long time. I don’t know how my journey will unfold. If I will be able to travel all the way on the Indian East coast or will I have to cut my journey short and return to the west abruptly. But the thing is, how can I know unless I try?

Hence I am going to try.

And, while I am at it, I promised myself to;

  • continue writing the blog, a minimum of twice a week
  • work on my video skills, daily
  • stay regular on Instagram, a minimum of three times a week

The best part, all this is very easy to do. All I have to do is to be regular.

Now that I have started a travel blog, might as well work on it to reap some results out of it. Don’t you agree?

Maybe you should choose to start a travel blog too

Or just give it a shot. Websites can be made free of cost too.

You could pick any topic that interests you – Food, DIY, Fashion. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a website, it could be YouTube, Instagram, Facebook or any other site that you are comfortable using.

Just be true to yourself and your content.

For now, I am only focusing on getting my website on the map so search engines can find it and the readers, you :), can get some value out of it. So you might consider subscribing to the newsletter.

This is why I chose to start a travel blog

If this, Raah_hi is going to remain a travel blog or turn into something more, I don’t know.

Traveling changes people, we all know that. So it might change me too. It already has in so many ways. It has made me more conscious of my surroundings and choices in everyday life. So we’ll just have to wait and watch.

In my experience, the only way to find your voice is by actually using it. You can easily apply the 10,000 hours rule here.

If you want to start a blog too, you might want to learn the difference between these two web hosts.

All the best for your blogging endeavors!

If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them for you. And, if you just want to get something out of your system, you can do so too 🙂
